I feel sorry for the children in Teluk Intan for if they are looking for a playground that is deemed safe and pleasant to play, they will probably find none around their neighborhood. Is it not that there are no green spaces and playgrounds allocated in housing areas in Teluk Intan but these playgrounds and green spaces are so overgrown with weeds and broken facilities that they are deemed unusable and unsafe.
Go around Teluk Intan, probably the only playground that can be considered a playground and handled with proper maintenance is the one in Jalan Speedy which is ironically, situated next to the Teluk Intan Town Council. Worst still, these playgrounds are also breeding grounds for mosquitoes for there are no proper maintenance. For example, the vast playground next to my house, the weed is as ankle high, the facilities are damaged by vandals as well as wear and tear and we have to live with constant fear of snakes coming into our garden via the playground.
Now that Teluk Intan is having a Member of Parliament who is also a Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, I hope that he can solve the problem of playgrounds in his constituency, working together with the district officers and councilors. I also expect Dato’ Mah Siew Keong, the district officer and councilors to notice of the abandoned major playground by the riverside located opposite the Lower Perak Club along Jalan Maharajalela. It is such a waste that a wonderful place next to the riverside, full of potential for a great recreation center is languishing in waste. It can be rehabilitated and turn into recreation center for the people of Teluk Intan.
To properly maintain and rehabilitate playgrounds around Teluk Intan is a small project compared to your promises of turning Teluk Intan into tourism hub and I hope that Dato’ Mah Siew Keong will not disappoint us. Last time it can be said that nothing can be done with the excuse that the Member of Parliament and State Assemblyman are from DAP but it is a different story now.
